As a breast cancer survivor since 1993, she’s been enlightening her story in print and at diverse talking engagements for some time, helping folks defeat their challenges and finding the positive in tricky times. She shares these experiences as she learned the lessons the difficult way Kirkhart has been thru a divorce and insolvency. She also lost her home and the hotel business she had built and operated for over ten years. This lady, a previous president of the Santa Barbara, Calif, convention and tourism bureau, hit rock-bottom, housesitting and sleeping in her auto. In the middle of these struggles, she got stories from her doctors about her breast cancer. How she turned her dark days into positive experiences has outlined her life. Kirkhart is the writer of “My Healing Companion” and co-writer of “My Healing Companion : A Book for the Medical Care Supplier ” and “Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul : 101 Healing Stories About People Who Have Survived Cancer.” Since thrashing breast cancer, Kirkhart has channeled her energy into helping other ladies cope with similar struggles. She resides in San Luis Obispo, Calif, where she’s director of the Hearst Cancer Resource Center. She currently is cancer-free.
