The Spider-Man Black Suit Saga would have been the most awaited story to be made into a movie when you go back in time to the late 1980’s. The Black Suit of Spider-Man from the original comic canon is a black costume corresponding to his thoughts and could mold into any shape. When he wants to be a normal person the suit retracts to hide itself. The black suit also enhanced his powers making spidey stronger and agile.

The Black suit is actually an alien symbiote trying to bond with Peter’s body making him cruel and aggressive. The comic was an epic that spanned for years requiring the strength of other Marvel heroes to battle Pete’s soul to bring him back to sanity.

The Black suited Spidey branded with the name ‘Venom’ is Spider-Man’s deadliest villians. The Comic fan world was in excitement to see the first trailer of Spider-Man 3 with scenes flashing Black-Suit Spider-Man posing head-down in the rain.

But when the movie hit the theatres, fans were disappointed that director Sam Raimi didn’t give his best. The story turned out to be lifeless with the Black Suit Spiderman portrayed as Spider-Man in a “Black Suit”. The inclusion of manic behavior of Pete after the alien symbiote attached to him, like flirting with girls, and the dancing, was welcomed with derision.

Raimi failed to portray certain important aspects of the suit that it had shape-shifting properties. It was just a Black dyed suit and nothing more.

The introduction of another villain Sandman, who happened to have killed Pete’s Uncle Ben, is totally unnecessary and deviated from the story. On the other end we have Harry stumbling upon the Green Goblin equipment and wanting to avenge his father’s death.

The movie ends with Harry getting amnesia, when he hits his head. Peter and Harry fight against Sandman and Venom to finally destroy the Symbiote.  Some of the annoying features brought by Raimi to the movie like the nerdy trait to Pete made Spider-Man 3 his worst nightmare ultimately to end his term with the franchise.

So for all die-hard lovers of comics, there is nothing but shattered dreams left.
